For my Data Journalism Visualisation assignment, I will be examining the housing market during the pandemic. With the economy rapidly changing with the pandemic, and the new president, interest rates have reduced extremely and many people have been selling and purchasing their homes. Stimulus checks have also been distributed, making it possible for some buyers to put a higher downpayment on a home. This is an exciting topic for me to research because I am currently looking into purchasing my first home, as are many of my family and friends.

It has officially been one year since the pandemic hit. With that being said, I will examine real data from the past year and see how many people bought homes, sold their homes, and are currently in the market to purchase.

Some of the resources that I have found such as Vox, Forbes, PR Newswire, and an article from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis will help me to conduct my research. I will also conduct a survey on Facebook and Instagram asking questions such as “Have you purchased a new home during the pandemic?” “Have you invested in real estate the past year?” “Have you sold a house during the pandemic?” “Are you currently searching for a home due to lower interest rates?”

For the video portion of this assignment, I will be interviewing a local realtor on her experience with the housing market during the pandemic.
